Challenging hike due to the cold weather, several inches of fresh snow, and the drifts. I wore microspikes up to the lake but after that you need snowshoes. A sign at the trailhead said the cascade brook bridge was out, and it doesn't look like anyone has tried walking around the south side of the lake, so neither did I. Ascending kinsman ridge trail was tough because of the loose snow, and some of the drifts were up to my waist and 10' long, but if you keep moving you'll be ok. By the time you read this the wind has probably covered my tracks though, such is life. I didn't stick around at the summit tower, with the wind chill it was probably around -15 to -20. There was something in the blogs about hikers descending cannon mtn ski trails, and being jerks about it. It shouldn't have to be said, but if you're on a ski trail, stay waaaaaaaaay off to one side. I don't know the motivations for descending a ski trail so I won't make assumptions, but keep in mind, you're not supposed to be there. |
