Comments
Comments: A beautiful day for a beautiful trip through the gorgeous birch glades on the Fire Warden's Trail (AKA Mt. Hale Trail). Abandoned in the 1960s but still well used and the only way to climb Hale, IMO.

Thanks to the folks who posted here over the last two days, and for their efforts in creating an excellent snowshoe track all the way up. Along with myself, another snowshoer and the only other hiker I saw all day, Rick from western MA, added to the packeddownishness. That said, this route is not yet ready for spikes. There's still some soft snow on top and minor drifting higher up. And if you need to step off the trail for any reason, you are going to sink. Snowshoes will also be beneficial going forward as temps warm up this week. Haystack Rd. was groomed for snowmobiles and a skier had been on North Twin Trail after I came through in the morning.

Other trails: There was light traffic continuing on to North Twin. Hale Brook Trail had an old snowshoe track that had been booted. Evidence of light snowshoe use on Lend-A-Hand Trail.

The wind that was in the forecast never happened, so it was quiet, still, and warm on the summit with the bright sun. The outlook near the top of the trail was spectacular today as the Presis were in the clear. Nice to chat with Rick on the way up and down.
