Tough conditions. The trail report on Thursday was spot-on. Lot of drifts and unconsolidated snow made this challenging in the foggy conditions where you can't see the tower amidst all the white. After the eastern outlook, it can get sketchy as the trail isn't broken out well amidst steady drifts. We got off trail, then back on at one point. Spruce traps will put you in up to your neck off trail. Also, there were a lot of skiers out there. And not just on the glades. Coming down the Kinsman Ridge Trail. Funny how hikers can't use the slopes, but skiers can muck up the packed hiking trail. |
