What a day! Blue skies, low winds and trails in surprisingly good shape. Bare booted the first 4.5 miles on well packed trails and then threw on snowshoes for the final 1.5ish miles to the summit.
Snowshoes are super helpful on that last push because of increasingly choppy trails, an uptick in postholes, and help with elevation. Some were wearing spikes, but didn't seem to be enjoying the. Wore the shoes back out to 2 mile rock (you know - the one that is 2 miles from the summit) before the trails were packed enough for bare boots again.
It's a great time to get Garfield before the next snowfall. |
