Originally planned to do the Piper-Whiteface Link, but the turnaround was full of cars. Amazingly the end of the Carriage Road had a few open spaces early this afternoon. |

 | Comments: |
Piper Mountain Trail was decently packed out with occasional postholes. However, up on the ridge, things are much softer and deeper. Quite a few postholes on the way to the summit, and then on the way to the col. I almost bailed there due to all of the postholes (wear snowshoes folks!), but fortunately the White Trail wasn't as bad.
Green Trail and Carriage Road are seeing regular snowmobile traffic. If you insist on hiking in Microspikes, this is your way to the summit without destroying the hiking trails.
Generally 1.5 to 2 feet of snowpack. Getting a little sticky in direct sun later this afternoon with temperatures reaching the mid-30s. Beautiful afternoon with clear skies and no wind. |
