No one would fault barebooting Zealand Road to the gate. Rising temps have made beyond gate a little bit sticky. Snowshoes recommended, but no one would judge you barebooting.
At Hale Brook the game changes. Snowshoes all the way. Trail is well-packed and deceptive. Rising temps causing sticky snow, leading to visible postholing (not very deep, but enough to hurt trail integrity). Very noticeable at the ledgy section: booting or spikes have weakened the outer ledge. Only a matter of time till someone takes an embarrassing spill.
Tl;dr: snowshoes door to door preferred. |
