Comments
Comments: A tale of two hikes. Up to Jackson and down from Pierce are amazingly packed and super fast. Spikes were plenty for these.
From Jackson to Pierce was a different story. The snow is soft on top but has a firm base underneath, so snowshoes are needed to avoid very deep post holes. The real challenge is the huge number of branches poking and prodding with every step. Prepare to dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge every few feet. It's not bad...but I did yell "I just want to walk upright for 10 steps" at one point. So just prepare yourself.
