Comments
Comments: A beautiful morning on Moosilauke from the lodge. I barebooted the lodge Rd past the gate as it was plowed and sanded to behind the lodge, then wore running snowshoes the entire snowy loop. Snow depths are impressive and I had several additional views today that I do not have over the summer in both gorge Brook and along the ridge on the carriage road.

Conditions below:

Gorge Brook: solidly packed until where the trail starts to emerge from the trees. From there snowshoes are helpful to avoid potholing off the side of the trail, of which there were many deep holes observed this morning along the edge. Light traction can be used the whole way, but snowshoes help up high. Some minor ice descending off the summit dome.

Carriage Road, South Peak Spur, and Snapper: Snowshoes 100% necessary due to an enormous lightly packed, drifted snowpack along the ridge, and unconsolidated and soft trails below the ridge . Carriage Road below the junction with glencliff is widely packed by skiers into what must be an incredible trail to ski -- please wear snowshoes to preserve their good work here. Someone had postholed the lower carriage Rd just above the Snapper junction as well as all along Snapper trail, but it seemed to be only one pair of boots that caused the damage so it is manageable..
