An incredible hiking day for Mt. Jefferson. Snowshoes door to door. The Jewell Trail below treeline was perfectly packed out, but soft. Above treeline, route finding was a bit difficult with lots of deep drifts. we followed one set of bare boots up to Gulfside. We had a much better track to follow all the way to the Jefferson summit. Great coverage on the rocks made for an easy ascent to the summit with snowshoes. The wind was strong just heading up the summit cone, but quickly died down back on Gulfside. Surprisingly there were very few hikers out Sunday. Very happy to check this one off for February. |
