Six of us set out to hike Moosilauke today not really sure what to expect in terms of conditions. The trail was narrow in many places but primarily very stable along the middle of the track. Plenty of deep frozen postholes throughout the length of the trail and the new snow at higher elevations made them more difficult to identify. At treeline the trail was very drifted and powdery and it remained that way until the summit. There were a couple of spots of blue ice hiding beneath the powder as well. All in all a good day, just a little slower than usual due to posthole dodging. |
