Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: There is no way in God's green earth I would even attempt to park in the parking area at the trailhead. You know those disaster movies where there is an earthquake and the road buckles? Yeah. That's what it looked like to me. I parked to the left of the convenience store with the good pizza and walked the road.

Comments
Comments: With the weather today, it was no surprise that I saw no one else. I bare booted the road and about the first 1/2 mile of the trail. There was some sticky snow covering the ice on the trail which provided some nice traction. It got progressively icier so I put on Hillsound Pros (anti-balling plates for the win). I used them the whole day and my snowshoes went for a ride. There was a little bit of drifting up high but the stretches were so short that I didn't bothering switching to snowshoes. On the descent the snow was getting stupidly sticky up high and there was a layer of slush over a lot of the trail. The last 2 miles had turned into a thick ice sidewalk. I was glad I had sharpened my Hillsounds and that the temps were warm enough to soften things a little. This stuff would be bullet proof in colder temps. If the temps drop, good spikes will be fine. If things warm up, snowshoes will be needed up high. There's still a lot of snow up there.
