After yesterdays hard rain and warm temps I thought we were going to be in for a slog fest but the trails were amazing, all things considered. Everything was all chewed up with post holes but the overnight temps and high winds really froze everything back up solid. Wore spikes all day and it was fine. Rollins Trail up on the ridge between peaks, one could make a case for snowshoes but that's really the only spot. Ledges on Whiteface were navigated without much difficulty. The major spot was bare rock, not even an ice layer. Coming down Dicey's Mill, things started to soften up a bit, and there were areas of bare ground interspersed with frozen ice monorail. Blue sky day with great views to be had, feels like we got away with one today. |
