With the incoming colder than normal weather, it may be a good idea to avoid this route for awhile.
Initially mostly bare ground from the trailhead to the water crossing. Lots of ice and patchy frozen granular from the water crossing to the stonewall. I was able to get by with Microspikes (barely) with temperatures above freezing this afternoon, but Hillsounds would not be out of the question.
Bare ground from the stonewall for a tenth or two, then back to patchy ice and wet ledge up to the ridge. I suspect the wet ledge will become black ice starting this evening.
Some areas of 2 foot deep frozen granular on the ridge, but also bare spots and ice. Not enough, at least on this stretch, to justify snowshoes at this juncture. Snowshoes will be superfluous on this route unless we get a moderate snowfall.
Sunny, but windy afternoon with temperatures in the 30s. |
