 | Water Crossing Notes: |
One crossing on North Twin Trail that is normally barely noticeable but with the not-so-little river gushing it created a tricky crossing especially with the ice covered rocks. We made do ok but my older pup (who has finished a grid and lately has me wondering how she did that) had a hard time. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Fire Warden's Trail was littered with branches but only one step over closer to the top. |

My dogs did great, minus the one water crossing incident. |

Not much snow, lots of bare ground, easily avoidable ice & running water on the trail until you get to the water crossing I mentioned where we put on microspikes. Fire Warden's trail down low was a mix of ice, some running water and tiny branches everywhere. Could hardly tell it was a trail at times. Up higher there was a more noticeable monorail of snow & ice and then the last mile was nicely packed snow with some postholes here and there. Cement snow today so we were not postholing even when stepping off trail. Brought my hillsounds but kept the micro spikes on the whole time until I took them back off at the North Twin trailhead. Ice wasn't that bad. Saw a handful of other folks out (thankfully no one pushed me today). Hale was the smart move. If you want a peak you won't need your waders or crampons for, go snag this one. Finished my SSW today in memory of my grandpa who died on the Winter Solstice. His ashes have been spread on each peak (give me a break on the LNT on that one folks). Drank some of his Johnnie Walker Blue & danced to trashy country music on the summit. If you're a summit shot person, make sure to cheers to him next time you're on a 4k. He was a good man and loved his whiskey. |
