Comments
Comments: It was amazing to see so much bare ground on this hike. The first mile can be bare booted. Right before Mt. Surprise, the ice began. The steep slabs were covered in thick ice. This went on for about 2 miles. I put on my Hillsound spikes, but the ice was so hard, they really weren’t digging in for a good grip. Spent a lot of time on the edge of the trail grabbing trees. The snow pack finally appeared for the final mile to the summit, and the conditions improved. On the way back, I used my Hillsound Pro crampons and it was much easier, but we really had to take our time with foot placement.

Snowshoes were not needed today because everything was frozen solid, but this will change with warmer temperatures.
