 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The ice and snow has melted out so we can all park normally again in front of the train depot. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Ice - Black, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow - Spring Snow, Snow/Ice - Postholes |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
The first two are open. I used the strategically placed logs to get part way across and then careful foot placement. The second two are still bridged but I poked the bridge first before trusting it. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There are some super friendly trees along the Willey Range trail that want to hug you the whole way. There are also some that want to poke your eyes out and grab at your pack. I guess those are the less friendly ones? Once the snowpack melts out a lot of these will be over your head if you are funsized like me. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
None seen :( |
|
 | Bugs: |
Still in Hell |
|
 | Lost and Found: |
I found 2 orange and 1 green peanut M&M. Don't even think about emailing me to get those back. They are long gone. |

Wowza! Conditions were pretty dang good. I used rock spikes to start but switched to Hillsound Pros about .5 from the Mt. Tom spur. My rock spikes are garbage after yesterday but if you have good spikes you will be fine. The trail is mostly packed snow with some areas of ice that were covered by the dusting of snow we got last night. There are some postholes along the way but nothing too horrible. The most tedious part was on the Willey Range trail. The packed portion of the trail is very narrow with big drops on either side, so you have to balance on this monorail kind of thing while the trees off to the side push you sideways. I just giggled my way through because I can only imagine how ungraceful I looked. The snow in the notch started just as I finished up so I don't know how much will be on the ground by tomorrow morning. My snowshoes are getting lazy with the conditions of the past week or so but they may be back to work with more snow and/or warmer temps making things soft. |
