After a very fun morning paddling the nearby Piscataquog River in Goffstown, I had to check out this area. Right off the bat, lots of ice - long stretch of it. Later, in some of the more sheltered areas there were vast swaths of pretty solid snow. I would say about 95% of the trails were snow-free but the 5% that had snow were doozies, but, I wasn't sinking down much. Extremely beautiful area with lots and lots of rhododendrons. Got a good start of-the-season 5-mile trail run in here - I like the rolling trails which never seem to climb endlessly. Saw 1 mountain biker (fatbike) and 2 other hikers - that was it - so if you want solitude, this is the place. Interesting double stone walls and nice big mossy rocks. Also a couple pleasant beaver ponds. |
