Bare booted to Bald Peak and beyond - maybe half a mile (?) higher were intermittent spots of ice, then more solid ice sections. I wore Hillsound trail crampons and they did the trick. Others with microspikes had some slippage and falls on the harder ice areas. Once you hit packed snow, it was solid snow and/or ice all they way over to South Peak with the exception of a few open rocky ledge areas with exposed rock. No significant monorail yet. Trails were still hard this morning, softening up in the sunny spots on the way out. Took a side trip to the Flume via spur trail that only had a small section of ice on it; water flowing nicely into the gorge area.
