Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Mt Cube, North Cube, NH
Trails
Trails: Kodak Trail, Mt Cube Trail, North Peak Side Trail (DOC)
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Wednesday, April 15, 2026
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked at the gate. Easy drive-up from Quintown Rd. Notable. A neighbor advised that logging trucks pass through the intersection of Quintown Rd and Mousley Brook Rd. Due to wide-turn of logging trucks, do not parking on the north side of the Quintown/ Mousley Brook intersection. If parking at the intersection, park closer to the Mousley Brook Bridge. (this is useful if doing the Doan/ J-trail loop on Smart's Mountain.)
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Small Patches
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Rock Hop near Hexacube.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few minor blowdowns. Two could use clean-up: on top of Eastman Ledge, another approaching Hexcube Shelter Trail
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: My senior dog could have done this on a dry day. Glad I left her at home due to spotty slick conditions.
Bugs
Bugs: I walked through a few of the first spider webs of the season. A few flies buzzed by in moist areas, but they were not bothersome

Comments
Comments: First seasonal hike in the trail-runners!
Didn't use the microspikes or crampons. Trace ice along Kodak Trail, barely noticeable. Green colors are returning to the forest floor quickly!

Easy footing overall, except for the small talus field in switchbacks above Hexacube. A few occasional slick spots throughout the hike due to AM showers.

Kodak felt like the most scenic approach to Cube. A few moose droppings near Hexacube and below the summit cone.

For redline purposes I descended Mt Cube Trail towards Rt25A to ~2600ft. There was a little bit more ice on the north side, but no need for traction.
Very glad to tag North Peak Trail. Prime views of the Baker River Valley with Moosilauke/ Clough to the northeast.
