Stopped just short of the first cannonball due to a patch of ice in a somewhat tricky spot. The guys went up to the cannonball. I could have done it if I had stopped and looked at my options more carefully. Trail conditions all over the place, put on spikes at 2500 ft. Mud, running water on the trail, crumbling monorail, firm but narrow monorail, collapsing, sunken, or buried bog bridges on the section along the lake. A couple of stepovers. Rough day for the spikes but who wants to stop 10 times on a 4.6 mi out and back! Overnight snow melting off trees did a nice job simulating rain. A short spell of sleet, and a little chilly up on the ridge due to wind and sweaty shirts. It ended as a lovely sunny warmish day!
