 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I write this mostly to report on the status of Piermont Heights Rd, as I couldn't find much intel on it and satellite imagery is not the most inspiring. It seems like everyone goes from Bear Tree Rd, but I'm not sure why, because Piermont Heights Rd is lovely and passable by any vehicle. I drove the full length, south to north, encountering a sign on the southern end saying it's a summer highway only and not maintain Nov-Apr. There were two water bars I had to slow down for, but I think low clearance could navigate these and otherwise it was a 15MPH sort of road.
We ended up parking on the southern end of the HOL on Piermont Heights Rd. There were a couple options of where to pull off. I also noted that the land north of the HOL and west of the was posted, but no issue near the HOL itself.

Champ might have preferred the longer approach via Bear Tree Rd since that would have meant more hiking |

Easy one to start the day off. 35 min round trip in pretty good woods. Some evidence of old logging, but nothing problematic. Not sure why this isn't the standard approach outside of winter. |
