 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked right at the power lines gate on Ore Hill Rd. Tight squeeze to not block the gate for the power lines, but think I managed. It was also a Sunday afternoon, so was willing to be a bit more aggressive. Not sure where I would have parked if not here. |

The powerline access road has received recent maintenance - bunch of hay blocks and loose hay in the wet areas. There were a couple stray posted signs around here, but it was highly ambiguous what land/direction they were referring to - one of them was on the WMNF corner post - seemingly indicating the WMNF was posted? Anyways, the powerline access road is certainly not clearly posted.
25 mins up to the HOL then into the woods. Woods were reasonably open, but a bunch of false summits until we found the right one at the southern tip of the western contour (as others have mentioned). From the summit, there was visible logging activity to the north/west and a report in the jar from the day prior referenced 'logging hell' making me happy I did not try this one from the AT. Descending, we decided to adventure and follow a woods road heading north from the col just below the summit. This worked out OK - we were able to mostly follow this road, which was just east of the northern ridge of the peak. Road took us through some logged areas and we eventually abandoned it as it appeared to ascend up the ridge to the NW. We popped out on the power lines near the S curve in the power line access road and quick jaunt back to the car from here. I think this route was probably the same time as the power lines would have been.
45 mins up, 30 mins down. |
