Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All crossings were navigable without getting wet. Some required me to stop for a second to find a path. It appears that the water crossing on Mt. Garfield Trail about 1.3 miles from the parking lot has now been ‘rerouted’ by some other hikers to go along side the stream and cross a snowmobile bridge. Look for the sticks making an arrow and follow the herd path if you like your feet to stay dry.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Some blowdowns on the first few miles of Gale River Trail. All relatively easy to step over or go around. Many small blowdowns on Garfield Ridge Trail.
Dog-Related Notes

Bugs: Out but not swarming this morning.

Comments
Comments: Gale River Trail is wet in some spots but much drier than expected. No real snow or ice to worry about. A couple of the boards that bridge some of the water flows off the side of the hill are broken but don’t impede travel. Garfield Ridge Trail hasn’t lost its character. Some small spots of ice towards hut but easy to get around. Waterfall/Trail near Garfield Ridge Shelter is a beauty right now. No ice but flowing strong. Ice going to summit of Garfield is starting to diminish. Can hike up with out relying on spikes if you rock hop the exposed tops but it might be safer to put on some traction. Mount Garfield trail is a mix of mud, standing water, running water, and dry trail.

Great to have the gates open on the forest roads already!
