Comments
Comments: The beginning of the trail from the parking lot is not too muddy right now but will be once it rains again. The new section starts about .8 mi from the trailhead. Ammo link has also been rerouted to come in close to the start of the reroute. There is a plastic coated sign on a tree a few feet past where the reroute leaves on the right and the blazes are blue. The reroute is pretty nice, the switchbacks help around Monroe Brook. Note that the bridge on the old section, below Gem Pool, has been removed. The reroute brings you directly to Gem Pool, andthey did a nice job brushing on the old section.

Above Gem Pool is the usual grind but today it was easy to avoid wet patches on the slabs which was nice. The two wider crossings are flowing steadily but not deep. It was hard to avoid getting the bottom of my boots wet a couple of times but I never felt like they would slip on the rocks or slabs. From the parking lot, the distance to Gem pool is now 2.45 mi, and 3.45 mi to the hut. There will be a public track available on GAIA if you search for Lakes of the Clouds Hut.
