 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We parked at a nice pull off at the junction of Millsfield Pond Rd with the ATV trail that goes between Mt Patience and Rock Pond, just south of west of Munn Pond Mt.
Noting we drove all the way around Metalak (to the north) to get here, and while a little bumpy in spots, it's totally fine. Millsfield Pond Rd is a perfect dirt road, 30 MPH+. Way better than Newell Brook Rd. |

I had originally planned to access this one from a spot a little SE of where we parked (SSW of the summit). But this was peak #6 of the day and it was hot so we opted for the slightly longer, but less steep / less elevation approach and it worked well.
We followed the grassy road east, crossing the old logging bridge with tree trunks as guardrails then up to the landing. We waded through some lowgrowth and then followed the logging road headed in the right direction. It was slashy at times, particularly when it dipped down for a minor water crossing, but the slash was firm and not overgrown, so we made good time on it. As the road started to ascend, we found another old road on the right, seemingly contouring, which we followed into good woods and another lovely old road ascending. Followed that up to a ferny area where we cut right again and followed good woods up to the the N/S old road beneath the summit spruce (visible on sat). From here we found a partially flagged path to within 50 ft of the summit. We tried to retrace our steps down, but ended up going to far north, which put us into overgrown clearcut, and we fought through it to get to the better woods to the south and found that nice old ascending road again. Followed our tracks out from here.
40 mins up, 25 mins down. |
