Room for many cars in trailhead lot off Musquash Rd - this area is also parking for the "boat launch" to the pond but the pond is pretty inaccessible due to vegetation so nobody was boating. When I got there mid-day, there were only 2 other cars; an hour later, I was the only one in the lot. |

all were minor crossing - several cross ancient culverts on the old woods roads |

there were a few trees down here and there. Whispering Pines had a large group of pines down on the trail - had a well-established bypass |

Ugh - horseflies near the main pond were vexing but at least I didn't stumble on any ground wasps. Also, there were a fair number of non-horseflies that were just annoying. |

My first time here. There are quite a few historical points of interest. There are some interesting cellar holes and stone walls - I really enjoyed them. I had a bit of difficulty finding the foundations but eventually found them. NOTE: there is a power line that a couple of the trails near the south end run through - I didn't find any ticks on me after poking around those areas so I am happy. OTher than the power lines, these trails are in beautiful woods so they are good for a hot day. I just LOVE old woods roads that seem to go on forever and the main roads here seem ancient! Most of the trails are fairly level and there are many miles of them - perfect for trail running. I did not have time or water to do the full traverse so I went halfway up and then looped back. The overall area does touch on a few neighborhoods but they are not intrusive at all. Super pleasant area - I will definitely explore the north end in the future. |
