Overcast wet morning in Randolph. Hiking into King Ravine over the wet boulders was as slippery and tough as heck. My goal was to work a couple hours lopping/clearing Great Gully Trail. I hiked up where we had left off. It sprinkled just a minute lightly then it was just cloudy and welcoming cool. 4 people came up the trail while I was working. That is four more than I thought I would see on such a socked in morning. I was going go for the summit after working two hours but it was still cloudy and sounded windy so I decided to work another hour. Of course by the time I was done working the sun had come out and I was wishing that I did hike up. But I was satisfied with clearing making it to the cascade crossing beneath the waterfall. I was able to brush in the wrong way and clear the turn so it wouldn't be missed. Blue blazes painted on ledge are still visible. I heard many voices floating over from the King Ravine Trail today. On my return some of the tops of the boulders had dried a little so it wasn't as difficult exiting King Ravine. Back at my car by 4 and geez was it hot and humid down below. |
