 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I got my Forester up to the height-of-land on the old Groton-Orange highway, AKA Orange Cove Trail, but the ride was worse than in the past. Someone decided to drive the road during mud season so there were deep ruts prior to Lucky Number Seven Pond. Above the pond, the road had a few washouts. I do not recommend driving a regular car up here as it will not be a good time. |

Got out today to work on my adopted section of Elwell Trail near Mt. Cardigan. The focus for this trip was between Mowglis Trail and the summit of Mowglis Mtn. 18 small blowdowns removed and a bunch of snipping and clipping done. Blazes need to be repainted and I hope to start that project this fall. Hobblebush and ground vegetation is starting to creep into the corridor so that will also be addressed in a future visit. If you have ever been on Elwell Trail, being a little more primitive is part of its character and charm.
Beautiful weather with cooler temps and lower humidity. Signs of fall here and there as the foliage is starting to have hints of color. As usual, I saw no one else although there was another truck parked when I got back.
(Craig S: Mowglis Trail was in good shape!) |
