We walked up the mowed southern edge of the field until a good looking spot to enter the woods, crossing over an old stone wall. We found a pretty straight forward and easy route up. Summit has a jar and totally blank register, but no pen/pencil! Jar was pretty easy to find, and noting there is some ground level barbed wire right by the summit tree.
Descending we tried to follow the same route, but ended up a touch further north and it was much thicker / less pleasant. We found a cell tower about halfway down that's visible with careful inspection of sat imagery but worst of all I hit a an obscured barbed wire fence in the middle of the woods, shredding my pants and breaking skin on both my thighs. Why on earth someone need barbed wire in the middle of the woods is beyond me, but you've been warned. We came out on a herd path a little higher up on the field, with some flagging and a buried electrical cable seemingly feeding the tower.
I think the key on the one is staying to the south of the tower. About a 20 minute round trip. |
