Trail sign for the Hi-Cannon Trail at the junction with the Kinsman Ridge Trail is missing. This has been the case for at least a couple of years.
Some new boardwalks have been installed on the Cascade Brook Trail on the perimeter of Lonesome Lake.
Some bog bridges on the Pemi Trail and the Around Lonesome Lake Trail are in poor condition and will need to be replaced soon.
The Kinsman Ridge Trail below the ski trails lies in a deep trench with gravelly surfaces that are slippery. This has been the case for as long as I can recall. The trail probably needs a reroute if the topography will allow such a relocation.
Some good stone steps have been placed in a wet area between Cannon Mountain and East Peak. There remains an extensive mud section near East Peak on the Kinsman Ridge Trail that could be improved with large rock steps. The trail has expanded laterally through the adjacent woods. |

Hiked Pemi Trail --> Lonesome Lake Trail --> Around Lonesome Lake Trail --> Dodge Cut-Off --> Hi-Cannon Trail --> Kinsman Ridge Trail. I prefer the loop rather than an out and back trip.
Most of the surfaces are dry. There was some wet ledges on the Hi-Cannon Trail but there were sufficient dry ledge areas to make for easy ascent. The wet ledges on the Kinsman Ridge Trail were a bit more difficult to maneuver. This is probably the norm as there are side trails avoiding the wet ledges. I found the ascent via the Hi-Cannon Trail easier than descending the irregular rock surfaces, wet ledges, and gravelly trail bed on the Kinsman Ridge Trail.
This route follows the shore of both Profile Lake and Lonesome Lake and an overview of Echo Lake. Good views from the summit tower, the outlook on the Hi-Cannon Trail and Rim Trail, and the East Peak outlook ledge.
Some fall leaf colors although there is still a lot of green leaves.
Lots of hikers out on all trails except the Pemi Trail and the Dodge Cut-Off. No tourists at the summit as the tramway is closed. |
