Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Room for several cars and then some at the trailhead lot off route 118 - I was able to easily get in and out with a very low clearance car.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Leaves - Significant/Slippery

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: water crossings were pretty low so no problem. I always enjoy the big slabby/mossy water crossing around a mile north of the ponds.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail apparently needs an adopter. Multiple multiple blowdowns and deadfall with multiple bypasses. Leaves off the hobblebush at higher elevations here so you can see your feet. Leaves cover ankle-rollers and ankle-busting holes, rocks, and foot-grabbing sticks. I would call this the most challenging trail I have been on in recent memory. However, it is very beautiful and well-worth the adventure. I did lose the trail at various times, typically near turns but backtracked and was OK. I have several Gaia tracks I've made over the years posted as public so you should be able to see them even if you have no signal in the actual area (don't wait until you are on the trail to explore the gaia tracks, in other words!) Very few blazes anywhere once you are away from ponds. Most of the blazes I saw are actual old-skool blazes made with axes which are very hard to see at a distance.

Comments
Comments: I always like to revisit this area - it is wild and beautiful. This is pretty challenging. I don't know if I'd recommend it unless you are comfortable with bushwhacking? Took me about 4.5 hours for just under 10 miles and I was trotting most of the flats when I could see some semblance of the actual trail. Beautiful remote area.
