Comments
Comments: The ascent up Welch includes a number of moderately steep long slabs, making the counter-clockwise route a good AMC guidebook recommendation to follow. This was a perfect leaf season day with vibrant full foliage. Despite a relatively low summit, Welch gave a stunning 360 degree view, and the hike up also offered many great views. We lost the trail somehow after we hit the col's nadir and ending up with a bit of a traverse through the woods on a pseudo-trail and then short bushwack to the Dickey summit.
Traction would be essential if there is any ice on the slabs whatsoever. Great hike!
