 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
There is plenty of parking space for midweek, offseason parking. |

 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Leaves - Significant/Slippery |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |

|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
The only crossing, at Whitin Brook below the cave, was an easy rock hop, as water levels continue to be low. In all crossings this time of year, take care if stepping on large leaf collections on a stream. Not all have something solid underneath. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There is a blowdown across the trail part way from rte 113A in to the Cabin/Big Rock Cave trail junction. The clearance under the high end is low enough to be cumbersome in a duck under, while the low end is high enough above the trail to make the straddle-leg swing cumbersome. |

 | Comments: |
This was a nice OTHH hike for the four of us. We saw nobody else out there the whole hike. There was full sun, no wind to speak of, and still a lot of past-peak color in the trees. This was a really good day to be out in the woods. There is a layer of fallen leaves on the trail everywhere, so in many places following the trail was a matter of following the obvious corridor going some distance ahead through the forest, in contrast to lack of a clear path of any distance to either side. It did seem that the leaf covering could be a problem trying to do a trail like this in darkness even with headlamps. |
