Trails
Trails: Edmands Path : Eisenhower Loop
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Wednesday, October 21, 2026
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The Mt Clinton Road was repaved this year. What a smooth ride. Plenty of space in the gravel lot.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Ice - Blue, Wet/Slippery Rock, Ice - Breakable Crust, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Leaves - Significant/Slippery
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The crossing of Abenaki Brook was easy on rocks. The crossing at 2.4 miles requires careful foot placement due to ice on the adjacent ledges.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail in good condition. The tree line warning sign is readable unlike some other signs elsewhere in the Presidential Range that are faded. The most difficult tree fall is an evergreen about 2.5' above the surface in the blowdown area at 2 miles from the trailhead (about 8" diameter). It isn't hard to step over. All other blowdowns/leaners are even easier to get by.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw one dog. Trails are good for dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: None

Comments
Comments: The leaves on the lowest part of the path weren't slippery. The pathway is obvious even with the leaf cover.
The ledges in the middle section of the Edmands Path were sufficiently dry to provide safe footing.
There is no ice up to the stone gate at 2.2 miles and traces in the uphill from the stone gate until just before the small brook crossing at 2.4 mile mark. From the brook until the tree line there is intermittent ice on the ground and some rocks. However, there are enough dry surfaces to permit passage without traction. Care must be taken in this section. Once above tree line, there is very little ice that is easily avoided. I didn't observe anyone wearing traction. Nevertheless, it would be wise to have traction available.
Great views in the alpine zone under deep blue sky. The purple diapensia mats are prominent on Mt Eisenhower.
Met hikers who had ascended via Edmands Path, Crawford Path, and one couple coming from Caps Ridge.
