Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All easy rock hops. Given that the temperature was 28 degrees when I started, I did check any wet looking rocks for ice. The day warmed up a lot so it was not an issue on the way back.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: I recall one new stepover on the A-Z trail as I headed towards the turn off for the Willey Range trail. It's a little one and pretty easy to step over.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: No puppers seen today but this route would be fine for them.
Bugs
Bugs: Back in Hell.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing lost and nothing found. I did check the kiosk on my return trip and there was nothing there either.

Comments
Comments: I am still keeping it easy this week so this was a good choice. The trail started with some wet areas and some run off on the rocks. I checked all of it and none was icy - just wet. There is a fair amount of leaves on both the Avalon trail and the A-Z trail but as you get up higher they are more ground up by foot traffic. The rocks leading up to the junction with the Mt Tom Spur are all big enough to stick out above the leaves which was much appreciated. There were more wet areas on the Willey Range trail and just a tad of very avoidable ice. I brought my spikes (I was not raised by wolves and know that as long as I pack them during shoulder season, I won't jinx myself to actually need them) but never needed them. I saw 8 people in total and knew 3 of them. It's always so great to bump into my people and get hugs and well wishes. That totally made my day! I even came back to a note on my car. :) BEST FRIENDS EVAH!
