See comments below regarding the relocation of this trail. Below the wilderness boundary, blazing is mostly decent but does need some touching up in places. Above the relo, blazes are few and far between, even though the trail is outside wilderness at this point; the relo is not blazed as it is mostly inside the boundary. Better markings up on the ridge might alleviate possible confusion on the open ledge sections where diverging beaten paths look like the main route. Noted several blowdowns along the ridge but all could easily be stepped over or ducked under. |

A first visit to the "new" Webster Cliff Trail. Starting about a mile in, the trail now ascends easily through 1.1 mi. of gently graded switchbacks (totaling almost 30!), which replace the former steep and more direct route, which had succumbed to erosion. Excellent work by all involved to make this happen!
It had been a while since I had been on this trail and kinda forgot how scrambly the upper section is. Super fun and a full body workout. Fortunately, everything was bone dry with no traces of winter yet. Coming down a couple of the scrambles could be a bit gnarly if things are wet or icy.
With it being a bluebird day, the views were spectacular and very clear. Windy and chilly on top but there was enough protection from the terrain that the wind really wasn't an issue. |
