 | Water Crossing Notes: |
The water level on Little River is not high. Nevertheless, care needs to be taken to ensure a dry passage. I found the best rocks a few steps upstream from the official crossing point. Some of the rocks were wet but were not slippery. Be careful in the AM crossing as some of the rock surfaces may ice up (not the case today). |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails in generally good condition.
The top of a striped maple lies across the North Twin Trail at the junction with the Firewarden herd path. On descent, be sure not to be diverted onto the Firewarden path.
The evergreen boughs are crowding the pathway on the North Twin Spur on the stretch below South Twin summit. |

 | Comments: |
The one crossing of the Little River on the North Twin trail requires care but it can definitely be much more difficult when the water levels are higher. On ascent one can see the hiker symbol sign and yellow blaze across the river.
There is mud on the North Twin Trail near the trailhead and just uphill from the river crossing. There is mud on the North Twin Spur as usual although some of the mud was firmed up by the cool temperatures. There are rocks in the mud to step on, however, the rocks are often mud covered, so they aren't always obvious.
The one somewhat tricky ledge on the North Twin Spur one the side of North Twin was mostly dry, so the footing was secure.
The North Twin Trail is populated by lots of rocks. This includes lot of small loose rocks that can cause slippage on descent.
Exceptionally great views from the two outlooks on North Twin and from the summit of South Twin. I could see from Vermont to Maine.
Lots of hikers on the Twins. |
