Hancock Notch Trail 0.1 miles and entered woods ascending the western ridge through some open woods at lower elevation, then more pokey pencil pines as we ascended. Contoured around the southwest shoulder to col then ascended to summit. Weaved in an out thorugh pencil pines to first canister (glass jar) which indicated the true summit was another 30 feet away. Labeled PVC canister. From summit headed toward dropoff but only found an obstructed view of the Kancamagus highway below. Retraced our steps back to the car. 2.5 mile bushwhack, 1300 feet elevation, took us 4:30 hrs including 1 hr lunch break at summit while we signed in and reviewed previous sign-ins. |
