Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Both crossings of Crawford Brook on the Avalon Trail were easy. Water levels are low.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in good condition. The only tree falls are close to the ground so are easy to step over. Eroded area on the south side of Mt Field on the Willey Range Trail. Small rocks cover a lot of the surface to prevent further erosion, although some of the surface is bare ground subject to further wear.

Comments
Comments: Most surfaces are dry making for secure footing. Three small patches of ice on the Avalon Trail above 3,600 feet that are easy to avoid. One patch of ice on the Willey Range Trail on the north side of Mt Field that is easy to get by. Otherwise, no ice or snow.
Very little mud due to the dry conditions. The most mud was in the root filled trail just before reaching the second crossing of Crawford Brook.
Be sure to go the short distance from the Mt Willey summit to the short side path to the best outlook in the range. Also, a short side trip up the path to Mt Avalon is worth the effort.
Some hikers out today including an 8 year old from Orange MA who is 50% through the NH 48 4K.
