Parked at Camp 7 on Cherry Mountain Road. Walked into the site and toward the small hill on left. Followed the skidder road for 0.6 miles and up to 2200 feet. Then aimed eastward toward the col between Mt Deception East Peak and Mt Deception. Open trees which became more dense with spruce as elevation was gained. Short 0.1 mi steep section ending at 3300 ft. We contoured at 3300-3400 feet aiming just after the col. Followed a herd path toward the summit but then slow going as we hit blowdowns and spruce. Eventually made our way to the canister. Replaced ziplock bag and added a pencil. Instead of climbing back over the blowdowns we decided to head northeasterly off the summit, following a herd path through narrow pencil pines. We soon emerged into an open and easily navigable section. Then we again contoured to the north avoiding the blowdowns on the summit ridge. Once we hit the northwest ridge of East Deception, we headed down the ridge back to open woods. 4.3 miles, 1760 feet elevation in 5:45 hrs including all breaks. |
