Comments
Comments: Still a couple of small icy sections below about 3000 feet. All but a couple of the steps were clear of snow and/or ice. Would recommend wearing light traction once snow and ice is encountered near 3000 feet. From there to a little beyond Beaver Brook shelter the ice and snow is still consistent on steep sections of trail, but a group of around eight was managing in bare boots. The Asquam had a stable, but narrow and tough to distinguish monorai,l which I missed on a couple of occasions resulting in post holing of up to about a foot. Bushwhacked in circles through sometimes thick spruce and found the same high point from three directions on Jim, so assume it was the peak, although it was unmarked. After bushwhacking up Mt. Blue, found a jar with very few entries given the five years it's been there. Seeing black clouds approaching Moosilauke, and having a forecast of thunder showers in the afternoon, I turned back after getting back to the Beaver Brook Trail after coming off Blue.
