Trails
Trails: Bunnell Notch Trail, Kilkenny Ridge trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Wednesday, November 4, 2026
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Thag picked me up in Gorham so the Pupmobile didn't make the trek. The road is in fine shape and we were the first ones in the parking lot. When we finished there were 4 parked there and plenty of room in the lot for Unknown Pond. No fee to park.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Leaves - Significant/Slippery
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No issues today. Easy rock hops.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: That one large tree on Bunnell Notch is still there. We both straddled it to get over it but it's been delimbed so it's not pokey.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: We saw one pupper today who had a great hike with their person. This is a great route for doggos. They will most likely be muddy when you finish.
Bugs
Bugs: I had one land on my glasses and he hitchhiked a ride with me for a bit. No real issues at all.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: We saw one glove and a Byoma lip serum on the sign at the trailhead. We left both there. Thag did mention his lips were really chapped...

Comments
Comments: This was part 3 of the Thag and Uki show for this month. I could not have asked for a better way to spend my birthday than to grid assist Thag, who GRIDDED OUT NOVEMBER today! Cue your Snoopy happy dance! Anyhoo, the trail was wet from yesterday's rain. Down low the leaves are deeper and they were wet and slick. All the rocks were wet too and the mud pits were squelchy. We took our time and did fine. The weather was so nice that we were not in a hurry and just wanted to enjoy the day. We got good views from Bunnell rock. The rocks up to the cabin were drier which was appreciated. The stretch from the cabin to the true summit was cruisy and drier as well. We backtracked to the cabin for snackies and hung out for awhile before heading down. We had the pleasure of bumping into Kwi-Hui (grid finisher #138), Matt and Jim on their way to the Bulge and the Horn and it was lovely to chat. This hike was brought to you by Hersheys (SO many varieties) and Thag's rendition of Happy Birthday. This wrapped up my first objective for the month (Thag's November close out). Now onto a few others. :)
