Since I butchered the location of the tree on the Pemi East Branch earlier this week, here are the instructions I wish I had:
-Go 2.9 miles on East Side Road
-Go past all of the tent sites until you hit the Pemi wilderness sign and gate
-Take the road to the left 50 yards or so to the river
-Look right. There's a huge tree over the river. Use it. It's surprisingly easy to get across.
This drops you on an island near the Lincoln Woods bridge which is quite pleasant. Go where you like from there.
With that out of the way, most of the Owl's Head hike is still in good shape, but does have a few tricky parts. The Black Pond bushwhack is very leafy and will take some attention to follow it. Brutus is good until about 3300 feet where it also gets a little leafy and actually sent me off course for longer than I care to admit. All trails are in good shape though. |
