| Comments: |
A bit of a drizzle and some stiff breeze in the Notch. Once into the woods things got better . Alternate drizzle rain and sleet to Avalon spur..above there precip turned to mostly snow which was welcome. Put on spikes just above the reroute..while some had barebooted this and the other trails much damage to moss and subsequent erosion noted.Spikes gave great footing on the long stretches of flow ice and we stayed on the trail. Windy and sleety on Field but once into the col wind died..decent solid monorail over to Willey with some bare spots..spikes perfect..no wind there ..no views either but we did enjoy lunch. Fast pace back over to Field . Pretty much a solid sheet of flow ice headed down to A-Z..spikes perfect but much barebooter damage noted to moss etc. At this point Mount Tom Spur and A-Z back to Avalon essentially snowfree and easily bootable with no environs damage..some damage from Irene noted in places. Great day out with some interesting weather with the OTHH gang, Sandy Claude and Ginette, and with Valerie |
