Beautiful, long loop of about 14 miles. Strenuous climbing in some sections but but long level stretches and many bald top areas with great views. Summits of North and South Baldface were wonderful. The descent from the south peak was tough and would have been very difficult in wet conditions, wide open slabs of granite.
Note: there is NO reliable water anywhere along this ridge so plan ahead. Emerald pool was the most amazing post hike plunge I've ever seen. We just beat out some killer thunder storms and as usual, ran into several totally unprepared hikers. Survived the unfortunate two mile road walk home (no trail angels) A great day all around |
