Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: First crossing of Crawford Brook easy on rocks. There were some rolling rocks on the second crossing of Crawford Brook but I crossed unscathed.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Overall trails in great condition. No obstructions. Trail corridors clear of branches. Plenty of rock steps on the Webster Cliff Trail for good footing up to the cliffs. Loose rocks in places on south sides of Mt Field and Willey on Willey Range Trail require some care while descending. Some erosion on steep sections of Willey Range south of Mt Willey.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw many dogs on Webster-Jackson Trail. Owners can decide if their dog should hike the steep trail south of Mt Willey which includes staircases and loose rocks.
Bugs
Bugs: Black flies were mostly tolerable with most in open areas especially the south outlook on Mt Tom.

Comments
Comments: The trails were mainly dry with generally good footing. There were some wet areas especially on the Jackson branch of the Webster-Jackson Trail which also had some rooty sections.
Met many hikers including the Pioneer Valley Hiking Club and the Winchester Mass cub scouts. Gray Jays made appearances on Mt Webster and Mt Field. Saw porcupine in the area of the first open ledge on the Webster Cliff Trail.
