Comments
Comments: Stayed at Osgood Tentsite, took the Cutoff to Madison Gulf then Raymond Path. These trails were in generally very good shape except for a boggy section of Raymond Path. Took Huntington Ravine Trail to the boulder field where we bouldered our own path to the Fan. The whole trail was dry and pretty well marked. Took Great Gulf tr below the summit as it virtually disappeared into the boulder field below, an occasional faded trail blaze made for lots of route finding. Very difficult descent. Once in the wilderness, there are no blazes but the trail is very well worn. A few sections are flooded out but passable with some minor bushwhacking. Spaulding Lake and Weetamoo Cascade are spectacular sights. The river crossings after Sphinx Tr junction are washouts and require very careful route finding, a 3 stone cairn marks one of them. Once the trail rises from the river bed, it's rugged but in good shape and passable all the way. A beautiful day for a very long hike and some great river diving.
