Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Larger streams bridged; small drainages step overs.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Gorge Brook good, many waterbars recently cleaned much of the way up. Beaver Brook good. Asquam Ridge suffered varying degrees of erosion from Irene but still has a some of the fine footbed it used to have. One section was pretty well wiped out by the brook. There were lots of orange ribboning marking waterbars to be replaced. I also met a group of mostly young women hard at work cleaning some of the waterbars. Thanks. I presume they took out a large blowdown too. The lowest section of the ridge trail is closed on its upper end with hikers directed to use the logging road that connects to the parking area. There's a new bridge over the river there and more work further down; it's a nice walk. I don't recall seeing a trail closed sign at its intersection with Gorge Brook but I may not have been paying attention.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Pepper loved the streams in the lower sections, fine sippin n dippin. No water up high on Gorge Brook, Beaver Brook or the upper Asquam. Good dog trails and we saw a few others on our way d down.
Bugs
Bugs: No problems. We only stopped on the peak and there was a brisk breeze (20+mph) on it to keep any away. By just dropping down 20' or so from the peak we were pretty much out of the wind but still no bugs.

Comments
Comments: Given the low humidity, somewhat early start, lots of dippin streams and fast and short trails, it was a very comfortable and pleasant hike. By going up Gorge Brook and coming down Asquam Ridge we were mostly by ourselves on a popular peak. The long views were a bit hazy but not bad. Great hike. It really was perfect for a warm summer day. Congrats Pepper.
