Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Kearsarge North Mountain, NH
Trails
Trails: Weeks Brook Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, June 30, 2012
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: A big lot 100 yards off Green Hill Road in Chatham, 0.4 mile north of the east terminus of Hurricane Mtn. Rd. I had it to myself, which I think is common.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: A few, all minor.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A Trail that gets little use, but in decent shape and not hard to follow. Blowdowns all easily passable. At 1.6 miles from trailhead, Trail reaches a T-junction with an old road. Turn left, then bear right across the wet meadow. A post at the end marks the return to the woods. Much wetness after that.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: No dogs or people today except three of the latter at the Kearsarge Tower, who had come up the usual way - not many for a sunny summer Saturday.
Bugs
Bugs: Heavy mosquitoes for the first 3 miles, but they dwindled after Shingle Pond.

Comments
Comments: I liked this longer alternative to the popular trail from Hurricane Mtn. Rd., even though it is twice as long, with many wet sections. There are no PUDs - uphill all the way, although about half of the gain is in the last mile-plus. Shingle Pond is very attractive and the whole Trail has the attraction of little apparent use.
