an incredible amount of flies deer flies unknown flies tracker wasps and black flies in the woods.. not much biting but the shear volume of bugs was amazing |

gorgeous weather day out. Quick work up the always lovely Zealand Trail and then across the dramatic section of Ethan Pond along Whitewall. Once across the bridge we cut upslope..hit long stretches of clear and dry open woods sections until we were eventually sucked into a very agressive hobblebush area..Multitudes of moose sign. Once to the ridge area we moved along ok in fairly open woods. Found a couple of racks and a skeleton along the way. Several false humps and high spots had us guessing for awhile but eventually after pushing through a couple of hundred yard spruce band we made the summit.. Fly infested there we did not linger and dropped off south west through some occaisional thick spots eventually hitting an old tote rode which we followed for a bit enjoying the good footbed. while the footing was good here this and another road we tried pulled us a bit south and by the time we hit Thoreau Falls Trail we were a mile or so south of what we had hoped. Great stretch of trail and we made super time to the falls and eventually back to the car where a brisk swim was enjoyed..Excellent day out with Becca and Valerie..thank you |
